This legendary session launched the career of one of the giants of modern jazz guitar who would go on to record his magnum opus Midnight Blue for Blue Note in 1963. Introducing kenny burrell put the jazz world on notice in 1956 that an extraordinary new guitarist was on the scene who combined bebop and the blues with smoky aplomb.





Blue World LP

Verve - In 1964, the national film board of canada asked john Coltrane to record the soundtrack for a French-language film titled "Le chat dans le sac" "The Cat in the Bag". For many years, viewers of the film who recognized the music thought that they were listening to the original recordings, though in fact they were new and had never been heard.

Shrink-wrapped. In june of that year, coltrane's 'Classic Quartet' entered Rudy Van Gelder's studio and recorded five previously-recorded Coltrane originals. Amazingly, no announcement was made that the iconic Coltrane was adding new performances to this film. Now, with the release of "Blue World", we can hear these newly-discovered recordings for the first time.





In 'N Out LP

Blue Note - Recorded in april 1964, in ‘n out falls square in the middle of the formidable run of five classic Blue Note albums that launched tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson’s legendary career. Shrink-wrapped. This blue note 80 vinyl edition is allanalog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.

The brilliant album cover design by Reid Miles is a quintessential example of the bold typography that made his style so influential. The music charted expansive postbop territory on three henderson’s originals “In ‘n Out” “Punjab” “Serenity” and two by Dorham “Short Story” “Brown’s Town”.

In 'N Out LP - The lineup featured the transcendent frontline of Henderson and trumpeter Kenny Dorham along with a powerful rhythm section with pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Richard Davis, and drummer Elvin Jones.





Jutta Hipp with Zoot Sims LP

Blue Note - A unique and shortlived presence on the NYC Jazz scene in the mid1950s, Hipp moved to the U. S. This blue note 80 vinyl edition is allanalog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal. Shrink-wrapped. With the aid of critic leonard feather and recorded a series of blue note releases that culminated with Jutta Hipp with Zoot Sims, trumpeter Jerry Lloyd, bassist Ahmed AbdulMalik, a sublime date with the feeling of highlevel blowing session featuring tenor saxophonist Zoot Sims, and drummer Ed Thigpen.

Highlights of the set including the uptempo opener “just blues” and the gorgeous ballad “Violets for Your Furs, ” and the album—which features a seminal graphic cover design by Reid Miles—turned out to be her final recording as Hipp left the music scene shortly thereafter. German jazz pianist jutta Hipp remains one of the mostintriguing yet littleknown figures in Blue Note history.
